Why Ronan knows Kavinsky's new room number is anyone's guess, but he does. Not only that, but he knows which exact bedroom is Kavinsky's. Whether he convinced Prokopenko to let him in or just slid in when no one was there is a secret he doesn't ever plan to tell.
He thought for a long time about doing this before he actually did it, but in the end, the part of him that needs to take care of people, even when they don't deserve it in a million years, wins out.
He leaves the dream package on Kavinsky's bed. It's just a box, and not a very impressive one, especially by Ronan's standards. But inside the box is a blue bandage. It looks like an Ace bandage, something to wrap around a wound. It's stiffer than that, without the weird sticky feeling of that kind of bandage. It took him days to dream it, thinking about the mechanics of mending bones, restoring flesh. There's a lot he doesn't know about that, about biology, but that doesn't matter. All he has to do is know it will do its job, and partially thanks to Kavinsky's guidance in a crash landing of drugs and dream sharing, he's gotten good at glossing over the things he doesn't know perfectly. Healing Adam's hands was easy by comparison, but if Kavinsky won't let him beat in the face of whoever tortured him, then he insists, in this weird passive-aggressive way, that he be allowed to do something. Even if it's not perfect, because this is Hell and they're all meant to suffer, it's something.
There's a note with the bandages.
fix your fucking hand.
He doesn't sign it. He doesn't need to. He won't want to talk about it, not in an hour or a day or five hundred years. That's just how he is.
[ Kavinsky didn't really care if Ronan didn't want to talk about it. He was gonna do something about it. Not wanting to be left in someone's debt, he takes a video of himself with the bandage wrapped around the slowly healing hand. ]
[ He leaves that video on read for at least an hour. But eventually, even Ronan answers his stupid phone. ]
lmk if it helps or doesnt
[ It's not much of a response, but it conveys his genuine concern as well as anything else probably would. He's not good at feelings, especially ones that tie him in knots like this whole thing has. ]
[As the devil's way of saying thank you for running a booth at the annual carnival or possibly apologizing for the clowns getting so outof hand, a gift basket has been left on the bed. It contains some treats like expensive chocolates, nuts, etc., a cute plush Satan bear, some self-care items like a plush robe, fragrances, etc. For those more sexually inclined, there will be a vibrator and some aphrodisiacs to do with what you will. For those not interested in that sort of thing, there will be a bottle of alcohol of some sort and a book or movie that the sinner would enjoy.
There's also one custom item included:
Keys to a sleek car that will be good for racing, but is in need of quite a bit of repair that he will find outside the hotel.]
It has been a full year since Hell has been redone and made even greater than ever before. And you, my prized guest, have made it twelve months in your journey towards redemption. I know that there have been bumps along the way and we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I do wish to show my gratitude. Together, we will all leave Hell one day.
I have handpicked gifts specifically for you to commemorate this anniversary. I do hope you enjoy them.
A stake in the club. He may add his own features to it, as well as sell drugs he wishes through it.
A vision where he has risen to power in Hell and has every luxury he could dream of, as well as freedom to return to Earth at will to corrupt other souls. This is a promise if he plays nicely in hell.
Two vouchers to enact torture on anyone he wants at the hands of demons, no need to justify it. He chooses severity.
Again, I thank you for all of your help in making Hell what it is today.
[after this.][It isn't a call he particularly enjoys the thought of making, but it's the one of the lot of them that makes the most sense, considering.
A part of him wonders if Kavinsky would even answer.]
Instead, Kavinsky picks up and doesn't say anything. There is music playing in the background, and other noise, tinny over the speakers, but no nearby human voice.]
[Proto sends along, after some time of making a list of specifications to go with it, a picture from his phone that he took of the proto shield. The notes that follow are extensive. Metal composition, dimensions, thickness, even details on how the bullet proof glass in the visibility slit works. And, having learned just enough to know better, a final note.]DVDs after proof of item acquisition.
[About 10-ish hours after he sends the text, the shield is left outside Proto's suite. Thanks to the notes and details, it is a very accurate approximation, coupled with Kavinsky's own knowledge of riot shields. The colors might not be spot on, but for all intents and purposes, it appears to be exactly what was asked for.
There's a little note tacked on the inside, below the visibility slit:]
Should hold up if I'm not in Hell. Be back for the DVDs. -K
[It's over a week between Shion attacking Kavinsky and the text. A lot has happened, and everything is a blur but his mind is clear now and after a few days wallowing in guilt he makes himself act.
He doesn't know the names of all the people he attacked but some he does and those are the ones he focuses on first. Like Kavinsky.
He should actually go and find him but he's not sure where Kavinsky is at the moment, with Hellburbia still wrecked. So he sends a text message instead.]
[ Molly remembers to call Kavinsky about an hour after he and Essek teleported away without a word. Well, when Essek teleported and didn't give him any say in the matter. Whatever. ]
We're alive, sorry for the swift departure. Caleb is back, the real one. He called and Essek made an executive decision.
