Character Basics
Name: Joseph Kavinsky
Canon: The Dream Thieves (Book Two of The Raven Cycle)
Exit: Kavinsky has been teaching Ronan how to control and improve his dreaming over the weekend while Gansey and Adam are in Washington, DC for an event with Gansey's family, following Ronan having stolen and crashed Gansey's 1973 Camero. Ronan has dreamed a copy of the Camero--but with no engine. A second attempt to dream the Camero is under way by Ronan while Kavinsky replenishes his high.
A Brief Background
Kavinsky comes from a separated household and a history that involved some level of violence, though the specifics are unclear. His father lives back in New Jersey, where he's from originally, while he and his mother live in Henrietta, Virginia; he attends Aglionby Academy, in the same year with Richard Campbell Gansey III, Ronan Lynch, and Adam Parish. The three have an obvious and uneasy relationship with Kavinsky; Kavinsky represents, largely, traits of each of the three boys that they themselves could become or hate within themselves, turned up or exaggerated to excessive amounts: Kavinsky and Gansey are both shows of wealth, prosperity and privilege, but where Gansey uses his for endeavors and camaraderie/familial kinship, Kavinsky uses his for bribery and exploitation; Kavinsky and Adam are both violent tempers with poor family stories, specifically attached to their fathers, but where Adam reigns his in fiercely, Kavinsky expresses his violence freely and ad nauseum. Most of all, Kavinsky and Ronan foil each other, as Kavinsky is often described as what Ronan "could become", if Ronan didn't have a soul, or otherwise chose Kavinsky over his existing friends group.
Kavinsky has a small group of friend of his own, including: Prokopenko, a young man who only recently went from being slightly aloof of Kavinsky's attentions to being Kavinsky's right hand man; and Jiang, Skov, and Swan, all three of whom are members of Kavinsky's inner circle but not quite as close as Prokopenko but whom Ronan has street raced against.
-- Prokopenko, and Kavinsky's father, are both what Kavinsky calls "forgeries"; they are dream things. Kavinsky is well aware that they are dream things at the time of his canon point, because he purposefully dreamed them into existence to cover for their deaths, whether he was directly or indirectly involved with them.
Things to Know
-- Kavinsky is a "dream thief"/"graywaren". He can access ley lines for the energies that exist there, through his dreams, and pull physical objects from those dreams and into the waking world. The larger and/or more complex the object is, the more energy it requires. Unlike Ronan, Cabeswater (the semi-sentient nexus of the ley line in Henrietta) does not like his presence because he is a thief; he takes often, and too much.
--- Things Kavinsky has produced (but do not have with him) include: his father; Prokopenko; over 100 white Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution cars, of various working order; various drugs of kind, quality, and repute; explosives; a pen cap; stinging plants; womens undergarments; beer; food; singing stones.
-- Kavinsky has little to no regard for personal boundaries. He will physically encroach on other's space, touch them without permission, pull them to him, continuously call them "pet names" even after they have requested him to stop, call people by slurs, text people incessantly, etc. This increases with his interest in the person. With Ronan, who Kavinsky had obvious and intentional interest in, this disregard for boundaries ranged from physically caressing Ronan's head to having a perfectly accurate copy of Ronan's bracelet, leaving several dozen near accurate copies of Ronan's driver's license at Monmouth Manufacturing, whispering in Ronan's ear, and when they were alone for the weekend together, Kavinsky took at least one intimate picture of Ronan's genitalia (which he sent to Gansey), as well as touching Ronan's back and hip without his consent.
-- Kavinsky has little to no regard to himself and other people, except for objects of intense fascination/obsession. This manifests in smaller gestures (swearing, encouraging drug/alcohol use in others, threats of violence) toward larger scale acts of disrespect and violence (street racing, "substance parties", the eventual violence he exhibits when his obsessions are not reciprocated). He is much more likely to be affected by a "slight" from someone he has construed as important enough to elevate toward this obsessive level, and these slights tend to result in more violent and destructive behavior; for lesser people, he is generally dismissive, as they are expendable.
-- Kavinsky's own lack of self-worth, as a result of his suicidal tendencies, manifests in reckless behavior, drug and alcohol use, drug and alcohol sales, lack of sleep, psychological abuse toward friends and relations, violent tendencies, and deliberate acts of destruction.
The Long and Short of Things
Kavinsky will be continuing his trend of self and generally destructive behavior. He will continue to be aggressive, physically and sometimes sexually, toward people, particularly if he takes an interest in them. He will, very quickly, be picking up his ability to produce narcotic drugs such as but not quite like cocaine, as well as other types of recreational drugs, which he will make available to the people of Darrow. He will also, very quickly, learn to create himself a very popular and well-liked public image in an attempt to undermine any and all objections about his presence that come from the Raven Boys and Blue.
Because of the nature of his behavior in his "off hours" life, this post will act as an opt out. You can comment here if you would like for him to remain relatively tame with any or all of your characters. PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REMAIN OPEN TO KAVINSKY'S FULL GAMBIT OF UNPLEASANTNESS.
At all times, permissions will be re-asked before any behaviors that might be triggering (violence, dubious or non-consensual sexual touching, etc) are initiated, and will be continuously asked about while threading; those that opt out will have Kavinsky generally treat them as too "uninteresting" for this sort of attention.
